Metcalf Educational Foundation

Guidance for Applicants

The Metcalf Educational Foundation is a charity established by the Will, proved on 13th January 1612(1613) of the Rev. John Metcalf who was a Rector of Stonham Aspal.   The charity is an incorporated association of Trustees, charity number 310363.   One of the objects of the trust is to assist in meeting the educational needs of the children resident in Stonham Aspal or Pettaugh by making grants for purposes outside the remit of the Local Education Authority.    Applications will be received throughout the year but applicants must consider that the Trustees meet every four months and that applications will be considered at the next scheduled meeting unless special circumstances prevail.   Personal applications will be considered against the following guidelines:

  • Grants are available to applicants who have reached the state school leaving age and are continuing their educational studies. Residents who are 25 years of age or over do not qualify.
  • The applicant must have been resident in the parishes of Stonham Aspal or Pettaugh for at least three years at the commencement of the educational year for which they are applying (grants will be considered for each educational year separately).
  • All applications must demonstrate a financial need and all applicants must declare any other grants received or applied for in the educational year.

Potential applicants must bear in mind that the Trustees reserve the right to request the return of any monies paid to the applicant if he or she does not complete their course, or the period of their course for which they have applied.
