How to get there from Pettaugh:   East out of Pettaugh on the A1120, turn right on to the B1077 towards Helmingham and then fork left through Framsden and follow signs to Cretingham -- about 5 miles

A traditional village inn, dating from 1545, The Bell has many period features, and is timbered throughout with 3 inglenook fireplaces.

Charles & Sarah are the new leaseholders, and offer two bar areas and a cosy restaurant which can seat 40, offering hand cooked food at lunchtime and evenings.   The Bell also offers B&B in three rooms.

The watercolour below was painted by 'a friend of a friend' who came to stay last year.

They say:

“Dinner, bed and breakfast for two nights. Slept well and ate well.  Woken by cockerel crowing at five o'clock each morning but not the fault of the hotel.

Friendly landlord and landlady who were anxious to please.” (B&B customer, The Bell)

"Just got back from The Cretingham Bell, where we had booked for one night 2nd July, Charles and Sarah, were very helpful, and great hosts. The bar and eating area, is lovely, old beams, inglenook fireplaces, comfy sofa's and table's and chairs, and lots of outdoor seating too. The room with ensuite, was lovely, spacious and clean. Charles is the chef, and the food was excellent, lots to choose from and cooked to perfection. Full english breakfast, was ample and again, cooked perfectly."  (Trip Advisor)

We say:

I guess it is no secret that we go to the Cretingham Bell every week. It is our favourite since Sarah and Charles have taken over. They are a really lovely couple. They are always friendly, helpful, in short, good company and we love the food and the garden. The fish is fresh from Aldeburgh and done in an ale batter."
